Ana Maria Braga was born in Brazil on April 1, 1949. Her father was from Italy, and her mother was Brazilian. This means she has both Brazilian and Italian citizenship.

She went to São Paulo State University. There, she studied biology and zoology, which is the study of animals.

Ana Maria Braga started her career in journalism. She first worked on a news program called Rede Tupi de Notícias at Rede Tupi. Later, she worked for a company called Editora Abril. She helped with fashion magazines like Cláudia.
