Designing the Palace of the Parliament
In 1986, Anca Petrescu became the main architect for a huge building project in Bucharest. This project was ordered by the Romanian leader at the time, Nicolae Ceaușescu. She was in charge of designing the Palace of the Parliament.
A Giant Building Project
Building the Palace of the Parliament was a massive undertaking. It took thirteen years to complete. This building is known as the world's second-largest civilian administrative building. Only the Pentagon in the United States is bigger.
Modernizing Bucharest
During the 1970s and 1980s, Anca Petrescu also worked on many other projects to modernize Bucharest. These projects aimed to improve the city by replacing older areas with new, modern buildings. These new buildings were designed to have all the necessary facilities in one place.
Political Career
Besides her work as an architect, Anca Petrescu was also involved in politics. She was a member of the Parliament for the Greater Romania Party (PRM). She served in this role from 2004 to 2008. As a member of Parliament, she helped make decisions and laws for her country.
Later Life and Death
On August 5, 2013, Anca Petrescu was in a serious car accident. About a month later, she went into a coma. Sadly, she never woke up and passed away on October 30, 2013, at the age of 64.
