Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Andrés Amado Reygondaud de Villebardet (1886 - 1960) was an important Spanish politician and lawyer. A politician is someone who works in government, making decisions for a country. A lawyer is a professional who helps people with legal matters.

Working in Government

Andrés Amado was very active in the government during the time when Miguel Primo de Rivera was in charge of Spain. He worked closely with José Calvo Sotelo in the Ministry of Finance. The Ministry of Finance is like a country's money department, handling how the government collects and spends money. Amado even took on the main leadership role in this ministry.

Agreements with Basque Provinces

One of his key roles was being part of a group that negotiated an important agreement with the Basque provinces. These are regions in northern Spain with their own unique culture and history. Making agreements like this helps different parts of a country work together smoothly.

During the Spanish Civil War

Later, during the Spanish Civil War, Andrés Amado continued to play a significant role. He was the head of the Finance Committee for a group called the Technical Board of the State. This board helped manage the country's affairs under Francisco Franco.

Continuing His Role

Amado kept his position in Franco's first government, which was formed in February 1938. He was actually the only person from the Technical Board who stayed in their job and survived the Civil War. He worked with Ramón Serrano Súñer to create new rules for how the government would be organized in 1938.

Discontent with Leadership

However, over time, both Amado and Serrano Suñer became unhappy with Franco's government. They felt that their hard work and the services provided by the Technical Board were not appreciated enough. Serrano even said they were considered "people without merit," meaning their contributions weren't valued.
