Andre Cailloux (born in 1825 – died May 27, 1863) was a brave soldier during the American Civil War. He was one of the first black officers in the Union Army. He was also one of the first black officers to die in battle.

Cailloux died heroically during a fight called the Siege of Port Hudson. This was a big battle where the Union Army tried to attack strong defenses built by the Confederate soldiers. Even though the attack was not successful, Cailloux's bravery was noticed.

News of his courage spread widely. His story became a powerful message. It encouraged many other African Americans to join the Union Army and fight for freedom.

People remembered Andre Cailloux as a hero and a patriot. A patriot is someone who loves and defends their country. A veteran named Colonel Douglass Wilson spoke about Cailloux in 1890. He said that Cailloux's bravery should always be honored. He believed that Americans should never forget his great courage.
