Andre Durie (born July 27, 1981) is a former professional Canadian football player. He played as a running back and slotback for the Toronto Argonauts in the Canadian Football League (CFL). Andre played for the Argonauts from 2007 to 2016. He joined the team on May 10, 2007, as a free agent. This means he wasn't chosen by a team in the 2007 CFL Draft. Before turning pro, he played university football for the York Lions.

Andre Durie's College Football Journey

Andre Durie played university football for York University in Toronto. He joined the York Lions in 2003. Before that, he set a record in junior football. He scored 22 touchdowns in one season!

Breaking Records at York University

In 2004, Andre had an amazing season. He played as a running back in eight games. He set a new record for the Ontario University Athletics with 349 rushing yards in a single game. Rushing yards are how many yards a player runs with the ball. He also set new York University records for:

  • Most rushing yards in a season (1,367 yards)
  • Most points scored in a season (96 points)
  • Most rushing touchdowns in a season (15 touchdowns)

Andre also tied a national university record. He scored six touchdowns in one game! This helped York win 55–33 against Waterloo.

Overcoming Injuries

In 2005, Andre faced a challenge. During the second game of the season, he hurt his knee. This injury kept him from playing for the rest of 2005 and all of 2006. It was a tough time for him.

Andre Durie's Professional Career

After his college injuries, Andre worked hard to get back on the field. He impressed the Toronto Argonauts at a special tryout camp. In 2007, he played in 5 games for the Argos.

Early Years and New Roles

Andre faced another injury in 2008. This made him miss more than half of that season. When he returned, he played on special teams. This means he played in specific parts of the game, like kickoffs. He also played as a backup running back.

In 2009, Andre played in all 18 games. He started as a backup running back. Later that season, he switched to playing slotback. This is a receiver position in football. He stayed in this role for the rest of his career. In 2009, he also became the fourth Argonaut player to gain 1000 yards from kickoff returns in a single season.

Grey Cup Champion and Career Highs

In 2012, Andre Durie achieved a big dream. He won his first Grey Cup championship! The Grey Cup is like the Super Bowl for Canadian football. His team, the Argonauts, beat the Calgary Stampeders 35–22. Andre even scored a touchdown in that big game!

The 2013 CFL season was Andre's best year for receiving. He caught 92 passes for 986 yards. These were his highest numbers ever in his career. After this great season, Andre signed a new contract with the Argonauts. He stayed with the team until the 2016 CFL season.
