Andrej Rozman (also known as Roza), born on May 25, 1955, is a well-known Slovene writer, poet, actor, and creator of street theatre. He is famous for writing fun poems and plays especially for children. He also writes clever and funny poems for adults.
Life and Work
Andrej Rozman was born in Ljubljana, Slovenia, in 1955. He started studying Slovene language and literature at the University of Ljubljana. However, he soon decided to follow his passion for theatre.
In 1978, he helped create a small theatre group. In the 1980s, he co-founded a street theatre group called Ana Monró Theatre. Street theatre means plays are performed outdoors, often for everyone to watch for free. Roza was the director of this group from 1982 to 1995.
He also helped write a TV comedy show called Vrtičkarji in 2000. Since 2003, Andrej Rozman has been running his own theatre company, called Rozinteater.
Awards
Andrej Rozman has won several important awards for his work.
- In 1999, he won the Levstik Award for his book of poems called Črvive pesmi (which means "Worm-Ridden Poems").
- He won the Levstik Award again in 2009 for his book 100 + 1 uganka (meaning "100 + 1 Riddles").
- In 2010, he received the Prešeren Foundation Award. This award recognized all his amazing work in theatre and writing.
