Andrey's Basketball Journey
Andrey Vorontsevich started his professional basketball career in the 2005–06 season. His first team was Lokomotiv Novosibirsk. He quickly showed his talent on the court.
Joining CSKA Moscow
Before the 2006–07 season, Andrey joined CSKA Moscow. This is one of the biggest basketball clubs in Europe. He played for CSKA Moscow for 14 seasons, from 2006 to 2020.
Awards and Achievements with CSKA
During his time with CSKA Moscow, Andrey won many important awards. In 2007, he was named the Best Russian Young Player. This award recognized him as a rising star in Russian basketball.
In the 2014–15 season, he had an amazing year. He was named the VTB United League Defensive Player of the Year. This means he was the best at stopping opponents from scoring. He also won the VTB United League Playoffs MVP award. This award goes to the most valuable player in the league's championship games.
Moving to New Teams
After 14 successful seasons, Andrey left CSKA Moscow on July 1, 2020. He then joined Nizhny Novgorod in the VTB United League on March 3, 2021. Later that year, on July 9, 2021, he signed with another Russian team, UNICS Kazan. He played for UNICS Kazan until 2023. In 2023, he returned to Nizhny Novgorod for a short time. In 2024, he moved back to UNICS Kazan before joining Zenit Saint Petersburg.
Playing for Russia's National Team
Andrey has also proudly represented his country, Russia, in basketball.
Junior National Team
As a younger player, Andrey was part of Russia's junior national teams. He played in the 2006 FIBA Europe Under-20 Championship and the 2007 FIBA Europe Under-20 Championship. These tournaments are for young players under 20 years old.
Senior National Team
Andrey became a key player for the senior Russian national basketball team. He played in several major international tournaments:
- The 2008 Summer Olympics
- The EuroBasket 2009
- The 2010 FIBA World Championship
- The EuroBasket 2015
- The EuroBasket 2017
He also helped Russia win a bronze medal at the EuroBasket 2011 tournament. This was a big achievement for his country.
