Andrianna Campbell-Lafleur is an expert in art history, an art critic, and a curator. She focuses on art from modern times and today.

Learning and Early Life

Andrianna Campbell-Lafleur studied at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD). She earned her first degree, a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA), in printmaking in 2001. While at RISD, she received a special award called the Andrew Mellon Fellowship from the Rhode Island School of Design Museum.

After her studies, she worked at Forbes, helping to manage a large collection of art from around the world. In 2020, she earned her highest degree, a doctorate, from the Graduate Center, CUNY. Her research for this degree was about the artist Norman Lewis and a style of art called Abstract Expressionism.

Her Work and Career

Campbell-Lafleur has written many articles about modern art for well-known magazines like Artforum, Art in America, and frieze. In 2016, she helped edit a special edition of the International Review of African American Art that was all about Norman Lewis. She also helped start a journal called apricota, which focuses on art writing and history.

Art and Social Change

In 2016, after a new president was elected, Campbell-Lafleur worked with MoveOn.org. She encouraged artists to create posters, signs, and slogans to support the 2017 Women's March. Her goal was to "promote positive change" through art.

In October 2017, Campbell-Lafleur and artist Marilyn Minter opened a special temporary shop called Anger Management. It was located inside the Brooklyn Museum. This shop was a way for over 70 artists to express their feelings through protest art. ..... Campbell-Lafleur explained that sharing these art pieces helped people feel connected and supported.
