Andris Kulbergs, born on May 26, 1979, is a businessman and politician from Latvia. He is currently the Prime Minister of Latvia, a role he started in 2026. Early Life and Business Career
Andris Kulbergs was born in Riga, Latvia, on May 26, 1979. He attended Riga Secondary School No. 50 and Rīgas Komercskola, which means 'Riga School of Commerce'. Later, he earned a university degree in international business from Concordia International University Estonia in 2022.
Mr. Kulbergs has worked in many different business roles. For example, he was a marketing director for a telecommunications company called Lattelecom. He also managed several car companies, including Auto Torino and Baltic Motors Ltd. He led the Inchcape group of companies in Latvia. Since 2006, he has been involved in leading the Latvian Authorised Automobile Dealers Association. He is currently the president of this association.
His Time in Parliament
In 2022, Andris Kulbergs was elected to the 14th Saeima. The Saeima is the parliament of Latvia. He joined as a member of the United List alliance. He was not officially part of a political party but worked with this group. The United List of Latvia later changed its name to "Restart of Latvia" in 2026.
While in parliament, Mr. Kulbergs held important positions. He was the chairman of a subcommittee focused on developing new ideas and innovations. He also served on committees that dealt with the country's economy, farming, environment, and public spending. In 2024, he ran for the European Parliament with the United List, but he was not elected.
During his time as a Member of Parliament, Kulbergs spoke about the Rail Baltica project. This is a large railway project. Becoming Prime Minister
On May 14, 2026, the Prime Minister at the time, Evika Siliņa, resigned. Just two days later, President Edgars Rinkēvičs chose Andris Kulbergs as a candidate for the next Prime Minister. His job was to lead the country for the five months remaining until the next election.
By May 20, Kulbergs and representatives from four political groups announced an agreement. These groups were the United List, New Unity, National Alliance, and Union of Greens and Farmers. They formed a new government together. Many ministers from the previous government stayed in their roles. On May 28, 2026, the parliament officially approved the new government. Andris Kulbergs became Prime Minister with 66 votes.

Andris Kulbergs is married to Anna Kulberga. They have three children together. He is a big fan of cars. In 2022, when he was elected to parliament, he shared that he owned 11 cars.
In 2022, after a car accident, he needed to use a wheelchair for a short time. This experience made him speak up for better streets and sidewalks in Riga. He wanted them to be easier for people with special needs to use. When his second child was born in 2023, Latvian news reported a fun family tradition. He drove his wife and new baby home from the hospital in a rally car. This tradition has been in his family for two generations.
