Playing in the Negro Leagues

Andy Harris started his professional baseball journey in 1917. He joined the Hilldale Club, a well-known team in the Negro leagues. These leagues were where African American players could play professionally during a time when they were not allowed in Major League Baseball.

After his first season, Andy played for different teams. In 1920, he played for the Pennsylvania Red Caps of New York. He then returned to the Hilldale Club in 1922.

Player and Manager

In 1926, Andy Harris took on a special role. He became a player-manager for the Newark Stars. This meant he played on the team while also leading them as their manager. The Newark Stars were part of the Eastern Colored League. This league was one of the top Negro leagues at the time.
