Richard Andrew Robinson OBE, born on April 3, 1964, is a well-known English rugby union coach and former player. He used to be the director of rugby for the Bristol Bears team. He also served as the head coach for the national teams of Scotland and England. From 2019 to 2022, he was the head coach of the Romanian national team.
Robinson played as an "openside flanker" for Bath, England, and the British & Irish Lions. After his playing career, he became a coach. He was the head coach of England from 2004 to 2006. Later, he coached Edinburgh Rugby and was a joint coach for Scotland A. In 2009, he became the head coach of Scotland. He left this role in 2012 after a tough loss against Tonga.

Playing Career
Andy Robinson was born in Taunton, Somerset. He played his first game for England against Australia on June 12, 1988. He played a total of eight matches for England, with his last game in 1995 against South Africa.
He was part of the British & Irish Lions team that toured Australia in 1989. During this tour, he played in six non-international games.
Teaching Career
While he was playing rugby for Bath, Andy Robinson also worked as a teacher. He taught mathematics, physical education, and rugby. He taught at Writhlington School, King Edward's School, Bath, and later at Colston's Collegiate School in Bristol.
At Colston's Collegiate School, he helped lead the school's rugby teams to win the Daily Mail Cup in both 1995 and 1996. After these successes, he decided to focus fully on playing rugby professionally for Bath.
Coaching Career
After his playing days, Robinson became a coach for Bath. He then joined the England coaching staff as the forwards coach. He worked alongside Clive Woodward when England won the Rugby World Cup in 2003.
When Clive Woodward left his role in 2004, Andy Robinson was chosen to be the new head coach for England. He also worked as a coach for the British & Irish Lions tours to Australia in 2001 and New Zealand in 2005.
During his time as England's head coach, Andy Robinson won nine out of twenty-two matches. In November 2006, he resigned from the position.
Coaching Scotland
In 2007, Andy Robinson was appointed as the new head coach for Edinburgh Rugby in Scotland. He also became a joint coach for the Scotland A team. In his first year, he helped Edinburgh achieve their highest-ever finish in the Celtic League at that time. The next season, Edinburgh finished as runners-up in the competition.
In June 2009, Robinson became the head coach of the Scotland national team. Under his leadership, Scotland won a series 2-0 in Argentina. They also had important home wins against Australia and South Africa. The win against South Africa helped Scotland reach their highest-ever world ranking of sixth place.
However, after a series of difficult results, including a loss to Tonga in November 2012, he resigned from his role as Scotland's head coach.
Coaching Bristol and Romania
On February 18, 2013, Andy Robinson joined Bristol Rugby club as their new director of rugby. In 2016, he successfully guided Bristol to be promoted to the Aviva Premiership, which is a top rugby league.
From September 2019 to December 2022, he took on another international coaching role. He became the head coach of the Romanian national team.
Personal Life
Andy Robinson is a vegetarian. He has four children. His son, Olly Robinson, is also a rugby player and currently plays for the Cardiff Blues. Another son, Ed Robinson, works as an assistant coach for Jersey Reds. He also has a son named Henry and a daughter named Charlotte.
Andy Robinson studied at Loughborough University from 1982 to 1986. He earned a degree in Physical Education and Sports Science in 1985. The following year, he completed a teaching qualification.
