Zoraptera are a special group of tiny insects. They are one of the smallest and least known insect groups. These insects look a bit like barklice or termites. They are very small, often less than 3 millimeters long.
What They Look Like
Zorapterans are usually less than 3 millimeters long. This measurement does not include their antennae. They like to live together in groups. Most zorapterans look very similar to each other. Their bodies can be off-white, especially when they are young (called nymphs). They can also be brown.
Each species of zorapteran has two main forms. One form has eyes and wings. These winged insects can fly away to new places. After they move, they often lose their wings. The other form is blind and has no wings. These wingless insects are the most common ones found in their colonies.
