Angela Robinson (born February 14, 1971) is an American director for films and television shows. She also writes screenplays and produces projects.
Early Life and Education
Angela Robinson was born in Chicago. She went to Brown University and studied theatre. Later, she earned a special degree called an MFA from New York University.
Angela Robinson's Career
Angela Robinson often creates films and TV shows that feature LGBTQ+ characters and stories. Her first film was a black and white movie called Chickula: Teenage Vampire. It was about a queer vampire and was shown at LGBTQ+ film festivals in 1995.
Robinson has also worked on popular TV series. She was a writer and co-executive producer for the HBO show Hung. She also wrote the first four issues of the Web comic series for DC Comics.
In 2012, it was announced that Robinson would write a supernatural teen thriller. Other producers from shows like Prison Break and Mad Men were also involved.
More recently, in 2021, Robinson signed a big deal with Warner Bros.. This deal allows her to create scripted TV shows for Warner Bros. platforms. These include HBOMax and other TV channels.
At Warner Bros., Robinson is currently working on a new series for HBOMax. She is a writer and executive producer for a show based on a DC Comics character called Madame Xanadu. Madame X is a special character who can see the future using tarot cards. She is also immortal, meaning she lives forever. This series will be made by Bad Robot and Warner Bros. Television.
Some of her notable directing work includes the films Herbie: Fully Loaded (2005) and Professor Marston and the Wonder Women (2017). She also directed several episodes of TV shows like The L Word, True Blood, and How to Get Away with Murder.
Personal Life
Angela Robinson is openly lesbian. Her partner is Alexandra "Alex" Martinez Kondracke. Alex is also a television writer and director. They met when they were both studying at New York University. In 2009, Alex gave birth to their son, Diego. They live in Los Feliz, California.
