Angela Slavova facts for kids
Angela Slavova is a smart Bulgarian scientist who works with math! She's an applied mathematician, which means she uses math to solve real-world problems. She leads a special department at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences that studies math and physics. She also used to be in charge of the Bulgarian part of a group called the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics, which helps people use math in jobs and industries.
Her School Journey
Angela Slavova studied a lot to become the scientist she is today.
- In 1986, she finished her first big degree (an M.S.) in computer engineering at the University of Ruse in Bulgaria. This means she learned how to design and build computer systems.
- Later, from 1992 to 1993, she got a special scholarship called a Fulbright scholarship. This allowed her to study in the United States at the Florida Institute of Technology.
- After that, she went back to Bulgaria. In 1995, she earned her Ph.D. in mathematics from the same university she first attended. A Ph.D. is a very high degree that shows you are an expert in your field.
- Even later, in 2005, she earned another high degree, called Doctor of Science, from the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.
Her Work and Leadership
Angela Slavova has held important roles throughout her career.
- From 2004 to 2011, she was the head of the Department of Mathematical Physics. This department is part of the Institute of Mathematics at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.
- Since 2007, she has been a full professor at the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. This means she teaches and does research at a very high level.
- Since 2011, she has been the head of the Department of Differential Equations and Mathematical Physics at the Institute of Mathematics, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.
- She also led the Bulgarian section of the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics for a year, from 2013 to 2014. This group helps connect math with real-world industries.
Books She Wrote
Angela Slavova has written several books to share her knowledge.
- She wrote a textbook called Cellular neural networks: dynamics and modelling in 2003. This book helps explain how special computer networks work.
- With another scientist named Petar Popivanov, she wrote two books about nonlinear waves. These are complex waves that don't behave in a simple, straight line.
- The first book was Nonlinear waves: An introduction (2011).
- The second was Nonlinear waves: A geometrical approach (2019).
