Angela Stanton-King, born on February 19, 1977, is an American author, TV personality, and speaker. She lives in Atlanta, Georgia. She became well-known after being pardoned by President Donald Trump. She was also a main cast member on the TV show From the Bottom Up.

In 2020, she ran as the Republican candidate for Georgia's 5th congressional district. She lost the election to Democratic candidate Nikema Williams.

Early Life and Background

Angela Stanton-King was born in Cheverly, Maryland. She spent her childhood in Buffalo, New York. She also lived in Greensboro, North Carolina, before moving to Atlanta, Georgia as a young adult.

Angela Stanton-King is the goddaughter of Alveda King. Alveda King is the niece of the famous civil rights leader, Martin Luther King Jr..

Pardon by President Trump

In 2004, Angela Stanton-King faced legal issues and spent two years in prison. While in prison, she gave birth to her daughter. Many years later, in February 2020, President Donald Trump granted her a pardon. A pardon is when a person is officially forgiven for a crime.

After her release, Stanton-King became an author. She wrote several books about her life. She also became a reality TV star. She was a main cast member on the third season of the BET show From the Bottom Up.

Political Career

On March 6, 2020, Angela Stanton-King announced she would run for Congress. She wanted to represent Georgia's 5th congressional district. She won the Republican primary election without any opponents.

The person she was running against, John Lewis, passed away on July 17, 2020. Nikema Williams, a state senator, took his place on the ballot.

On November 3, 2020, Stanton-King lost the election to Nikema Williams. Williams received 85.1% of the votes, while Stanton-King received 14.9%.

Supporting Important Causes

Angela Stanton-King joined a group of Black supporters of Donald Trump in 2020. She attended an event at the White House with President Trump to celebrate Black History Month.

She supported the First Step Act. This law helps reform the justice system. One part of the law made it illegal to handcuff women during childbirth. Stanton-King has shared that she was shackled during childbirth when she was in prison. She also said her daughter was taken from her arms soon after birth.

She believes that people who have been released from prison after a felony conviction should have the right to vote.

Recent Political Activities

Stanton-King campaigned for independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. in the 2024 United States presidential election. She stated that she felt the Republican Party was not supportive enough of Black communities. She also admired the Kennedy Family's history of supporting civil rights.

She was appointed as the director for Black voter engagement for Kennedy's campaign. In May 2024, Stanton-King announced that she had stepped down from the campaign.
