Angophora Reserve is a special nature area in the Northern Beaches region of Sydney, New South Wales. It covers about 18.5 hectares, which is like 35 football fields! This reserve is a safe home for many native animals and plants.

It used to be two separate areas called Hudson Park and Angophora Reserve. Now, they are joined together and known as Angophora Reserve. The reserve is next to the suburbs of Avalon, Clareville, and Taylors Point. It acts as a "wildlife corridor," helping animals move safely between different natural areas.

Angophora Reserve also has an important Aboriginal shelter site. This site is very significant for its history and culture. It is one of the most important Aboriginal sites in the Sydney area.

History of Angophora Reserve

Angophora Reserve was bought in 1937 by the Wildlife Preservation Society. They wanted to protect a giant Angophora Red Gum tree. This amazing tree is thought to be about 1,000 years old!

Protecting the Giant Tree

Even though the giant Angophora tree is now dead, it still stands tall in the reserve. Sir Philip Whistler Street officially opened the reserve on March 19, 1938. The opening ceremony took place right under this ancient tree.

Joining the Reserves

Later, in 1957, the area next to it, Hudson Park, was also made a public reserve. For many years, committees helped manage both Angophora Reserve and Hudson Park. These groups worked to keep the bushland healthy and safe.

In 1989, Angophora Reserve and Hudson Park were listed on the "Register of the National Estate." This list was for places that were very important to Australia. The reserve was recognized for its value to the community. It was important for people to enjoy nature, learn about the environment, and relax outdoors.
