Angus William Eden Holden (born August 1, 1898 – died July 6, 1951) was an important British politician. He held the title of the 3rd Baron Holden and was also the 4th Baronet Holden. He first belonged to the Liberal Party and later joined the Labour Party.

Angus Holden became a Baron after his father, Ernest Illingworth Holden, passed away in 1937. A Baron is a noble title, usually passed down through families.

Early Political Life

In 1929, Angus Holden decided to enter politics. He ran as a candidate for the Liberal Party in the area called Tottenham North. This was during the 1929 general election, which is when people across the country vote for their representatives in Parliament.

Role in Government

Angus Holden played several important roles in the British government. In 1947, he served as a Speaker and Deputy Chairman in the House of Lords. The House of Lords is one of the two parts of the UK Parliament, where important laws are discussed and approved.

From March to July 1950, he worked in the Labour government led by Clement Attlee. During this time, he was the Under-Secretary of State for Commonwealth Relations. This role meant he helped manage the UK's relationships with countries in the Commonwealth, which are countries that used to be part of the British Empire.

Later Life and Legacy

Lord Holden passed away in July 1951 when he was 52 years old. He never married, so when he died, his title as Baron Holden ended. However, his other title, the Baronetcy, was passed on to a relative, Sir Isaac Holden.

Besides his political work, Angus Holden was also a writer. He wrote several books, which were popular enough to have many different editions.
