Why Hal Linden Hosted

Linden joked about his experiences with animals on set. He said he was "chewed by a camel" and "peed upon by virtually every creature."
Linden agreed to host because he felt it was a smart kids' show. He thought it didn't "insult" children's intelligence. Filming the show could be tough because they often filmed outdoors. But Linden was used to long filming days from his other TV show, Barney Miller. He also mentioned that the show was often skipped when baseball games aired. This was because of its morning time slot.
