Gelechia achyrota Meyrick, 1886 |
Anisoplaca achyrota is a type of moth that lives only in New Zealand. It belongs to a group of moths called Gelechiidae. A scientist named Edward Meyrick first described this moth in 1886.
About This Moth
This moth is quite small, with a wingspan (the distance from one wingtip to the other) of about 17 to 18 millimeters. That's less than an inch!
What It Looks Like
The front wings of the Anisoplaca achyrota moth are a light brownish-yellow color. They have a mix of white and black spots and speckles.
- The front edge of the wing (called the costa) is mostly whitish with small black dots.
- The inner edge of the wing has some blackish areas.
- There's a tiny black spot near the base of the wing.
- You can also see four small black spots on the wing, each surrounded by a whitish ring. Two of these spots are close together in the middle of the wing, and two more are tiny dots further back.
- Near the back of the wing, there's a cloudy whitish band that looks like it has a tooth-like shape in the middle.
- The very edge of the back of the wing has a faint black line.
The back wings of the moth are grey, becoming lighter in color closer to the body.
