About Anita Endrezze
Anita Endrezze was born in Long Beach, California, in 1952. Her father's family has Yaqui roots, and her mother's family comes from Europe, including Slovenia, Germany (Transylvanian Saxons), and northern Italy.
She went to Eastern Washington University and earned a master's degree there.
Her Work and Career
Anita Endrezze is a talented storyteller, artist, and teacher. She teaches classes at universities. Her writings have been translated into seven different languages and published in ten countries around the world. She has also been part of the Washington State Council for the Humanities Speakers' Series, sharing her knowledge and stories with many people.
As a Poet and Artist
Anita Endrezze is well-known for her poetry and paintings. In March 2000, her book called Throwing Fire at the Sun, Water at the Moon was released. This book is special because it includes her own beautiful paintings.
Another one of her poetry books, at the helm of twilight, won two important awards in 1992: the Bumbershoot/Weyerhaeuser Award and the Governor's Writing Award for Washington State. She also received a grant from Artist Trust. This grant helped her research for her book Throwing Fire at the Sun, Water at the Moon.
Her work has reached readers internationally. Lune D'Ambre, a book of her poems, was translated into French and published in France. Another book, The Humming of Stars and Bees and Waves, was published in England. She also wrote a children's novel, The Mountain and the Guardian Spirit, which was published in Danish.
