Anna Juliane Bochkoltz (also known as Bochkoltz-Falconi) was a talented German singer, teacher, and composer. She was born on March 11, 1815, and passed away on December 24, 1879. Anna was famous for her amazing singing voice, especially in operas.

She gave her first concert in 1843. After that, she studied music in Brussels and Paris to improve her skills. Anna performed in many big cities like Paris, London, and Berlin. In the 1850s, she sang in famous opera houses in places like Wiesbaden, Frankfurt, Munich, and Coburg. People knew her for her wide vocal range. She was considered one of the most important dramatic coloratura sopranos of her time. This means she could sing very high notes with great power and flexibility. She played lead roles in famous operas like Mozart's Don Giovanni, Beethoven's Fidelio, and Bellini's Norma. Later in her life, she taught singing in Vienna, Strasbourg, and Paris.

Anna Juliane Bochkoltz was born in Trier, Germany. Her father, Johann Friedrich Joseph Bochkoltz, was a lawyer. Her mother, Barbara Sauer, ran a private school. Anna's nickname was Nanny.

From 1831 to 1833, Anna helped her mother by teaching drawing at the school. She also started training her voice. It is said that Stephan Dunst was her first voice teacher. She also knew Jenny von Westphalen.

Early Career and Studies

Anna gave her very first concert in Trier in 1843. The next year, in 1844, she went to study at the conservatory in Brussels. A conservatory is a special school for music. In 1845, she continued her studies in Paris.

In 1846, she became a "Membre Solo de la Sociètè du Conservatoire de Paris." This means she was recognized as a solo member of a famous music society in Paris. She then performed concerts in many major cities, including Paris, London, Berlin, and her hometown, Trier.

Opera Performances

During the 1850s, Anna became a star on the opera stage. She performed in important opera houses. These included the Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden, the Frankfurt Opera, the National Theatre Munich, and the Landestheater Coburg.

Teaching and Later Years

From 1856 to 1873, Anna lived in Vienna, Austria. There, she shared her knowledge by giving singing lessons. Some of her students became well-known singers themselves. These included Ottilie Ebner, Wilhelmine Raab, Ida Benza, and Hermann Rosenberg.

Besides singing and teaching, Anna also composed music. She wrote songs that were meant to be sung with piano music.

In 1873, she moved to Strasbourg and continued teaching. Later, she moved to Paris, France, where she passed away in 1879.

Anna Bochkoltz was truly a remarkable singer. She was known for her incredible voice, which had a very wide range. People considered her one of the most important dramatic coloratura sopranos of her time.

Anna Bochkoltz had several memorable performances during her career.

On November 1, 1851, she performed at La Scala in Milan, Italy. She sang in Pergolesi's opera Lo frate 'nnamorato.

She also took part in a special premiere. On April 2, 1854, she performed a role in the first-ever show of Santa Chiara. This opera was composed by Ernest II, Duke of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, and it premiered in Gotha.

Anna played the role of Fidelio in Beethoven's opera in Munich on October 21, 1852.

In December 1854, she performed as Elisabeth in Wagner's Tannhäuser. This performance was special because it took place in Coburg, where the story of the opera is set. She sang alongside Julius Réer, who played the main role.
