Anna Maria Indrio (born on June 11, 1943, in Meina, Italy) is a talented architect from Italy and Denmark. She is known for designing many important cultural buildings. She also played a big role at C. F. Møller Architects, a famous architecture firm in Copenhagen.

Becoming an Architect

Anna Maria Indrio started studying architecture in Rome, Italy, from 1962 to 1965. Later, she moved to Denmark and continued her studies at the Danish Academy's School of Architecture between 1966 and 1971. There, she learned from a well-known architect named Johan Otto von Spreckelsen.

From 1979 to 1989, Anna Maria worked with her husband, Poul Jensen, in their own design studio. Together, they helped design the Nørrevang Church in Slagelse in 1989. This church mixed local building styles with a modern design trend called Postmodernism.

Designing Famous Buildings

In 1991, Anna Maria Indrio became a partner at C. F. Møller's firm. This was a very important step in her career. She became the main architect for several big projects.

Museum Extensions

One of her major projects was designing the extension for the Statens Museum for Kunst (National Gallery of Denmark) in Copenhagen. This work was completed between 1995 and 1998. She also led the design for the extension of the Arken Museum of Modern Art in Ishøj, which was finished in 2007.

International Projects

Anna Maria Indrio's work wasn't just in Denmark. She also designed an extension for the famous Natural History Museum in London in 2001. In 2004, she worked on converting the Certosa di San Martino, an old monastery, into a museum in Naples, Italy.

Recognitions and Awards

Anna Maria Indrio has received many awards for her excellent work in architecture.

In 2007, she won a prize for an apartment building she designed at Østerbrogade 105 in Copenhagen. She was also given the Nykredit Architecture Prize in 2006, which is a very respected award in architecture.

She has also been honored by both Denmark and Italy. In 2000, she became a knight of the Order of the Dannebrog in Denmark. In 2003, she became a knight of the Italian Order of the Star of Italian Solidarity. These awards recognize her contributions and achievements. In 2010, she received the Eckersberg Medal, another high honor for artists and architects.
