Anna Maria Indrio was born in Italy on June 11, 1943. She is a famous architect from both Italy and Denmark. She has designed many important buildings, especially cultural places like museums. She also played a big role at a well-known architecture firm called C. F. Møller Architects in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Biography

Anna Maria Indrio first started studying architecture in Rome, Italy, from 1962 to 1965. Later, she moved to Denmark and continued her studies at the Danish Academy's School of Architecture between 1966 and 1971. She learned from a famous architect named Johan Otto von Spreckelsen.

From 1979 to 1989, she worked with her husband, Poul Jensen, in their own design studio. Together, they helped design the Nørrevang Church in Slagelse in 1989. This church mixed local building styles with a newer style called Postmodern architecture.

In 1991, Anna Maria Indrio became a partner at C. F. Møller's firm. She was the main architect for some very important projects. She designed the additions to the Statens Museum for Kunst (National Gallery of Denmark) from 1995 to 1998. She also worked on the extension for the Arken Museum of Modern Art in Ishøj in 2007.

Her work wasn't just in Denmark! She also designed an extension for the famous Natural History Museum in London in 2001. In 2004, she worked on changing the Certosa di San Martino, an old monastery, into a museum in Naples, Italy.

Anna Maria Indrio is part of many cultural groups. She was on the board of the Danish Building Research Institute from 1996 to 2002. She also served on the board of the Federation of Danish Architects for many years, from 1980 to 1994. She is a member of the Royal Danish Academy and has taught architecture at the Aarhus School of Architecture.

Awards

Anna Maria Indrio has received several awards for her amazing work. In 2007, she won a prize for an apartment building she designed at Østerbrogade 105 in Copenhagen. She was given the Nykredit Architecture Prize in 2006, which is a very important award for architects.

She also received special honors from both Denmark and Italy. In 2000, she became a knight of the Order of the Dannebrog in Denmark. In 2003, she became a knight of the Italian Order of the Star of Italian Solidarity. In 2010, she was awarded the Eckersberg Medal, another high honor for artists in Denmark.
