Anna Regina is an important town in Guyana. It's the main town of the Pomeroon-Supenaam Region. This town is located on the Atlantic coast, near the mouth of the Essequibo River. It became a town in 1970. In 2012, about 2,064 people lived there.

History of Anna Regina

Anna Regina has a long history! It started as a Dutch farm (called a plantation) way back in the early 1800s. Later, an English person owned it. They had two daughters named Anna and Regina, and that's how the town got its name!

What Can You Find in Anna Regina?

Anna Regina has many useful places. You can find two markets there: the Old Market and the New Market. There's also a community center that's becoming a sports stadium!

For education, there are three public schools: Cotton Field Nursery, Cotton Field Secondary, and Anna Regina Multilateral School. There's also a special campus for the University of Guyana, and a private religious school called Al-Madinah Islamic Academy.

You'll also see many government buildings and banks like Republic Bank Limited and Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry Limited. If you're visiting, there are hotels and resorts, including the Jaigobin Hotel and the famous Lake Mainstay Resort.

Historical Sites in Anna Regina

Anna Regina has several places that are important to its history.

In 1988, the Damon Monument was built. This monument honors Damon, a brave person who spoke out against unfair rules after slavery ended. He was sadly executed for his protest.

Other historical spots include Damon's Cross, the Aurora Chimney and Estate House, Anna Regina Bridge, Anna Regina Chimney, St. Bartholomew's Anglican Church, and some old Dutch tombs. These places help us remember the past of Anna Regina.
