Annabel Pitcher: A Writer for Young Readers
Her Journey to Becoming an Author
Annabel Pitcher grew up in a small village in West Yorkshire, England. She went on to study English Literature at Oxford University. Before she became a published author, Annabel trained as a teacher. She taught English at Wakefield Girls' High School.
Her very first novel, My Sister Lives on the Mantelpiece, was released in 2011. This book tells the story of a family dealing with a sad event. It quickly became a bestseller and has been translated into more than twenty languages. The book was recognized with several awards and nominations. It was shortlisted for the Carnegie Medal and the Red House Children's Book Award. It also won the Royal Society of Authors' Betty Trask Award and the special 2012 Branford Boase Award for the best first novel.
Annabel's second book, Ketchup Clouds, was also very successful. It won the Waterstones Children's Book Prize. In 2014, it received the Edgar Allan Poe Award for 'Best Young Adult Novel'. This award is given by the Mystery Writers of America. Annabel's books are usually enjoyed by readers aged 10 to 15.
