Understanding History: Rethinking Poles and Jews

Annamaria Orla-Bukowska helped write an important book called Rethinking Poles and Jews: Troubled Past, Brighter Future. She wrote it with Robert Cherry from Brooklyn College. The book came out in 2007.

It was published in both English and Polish. The Polish title is Polacy i Żydzi – kwestia otwarta. This book is a collection of essays. These essays talk about the Holocaust in Poland. The Holocaust was a terrible time in history when many Jewish people were killed.

The book was one of the first to look at how some stories about the Holocaust might have been unfair to Polish people. It tried to correct misunderstandings and stereotypes.

Many people praised the book. Michael C. Steinlauf said it was "a ray of light" in a difficult discussion. Deborah Lipstadt said the essays helped to "pierce the stereotypes" and show the real history.
