Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Anne Casey is a nurse from New Zealand who works in England. She is famous for creating something called Casey's Model of Nursing. In October 2002, Anne Casey became a Fellow of the Royal College of Nursing. This special honor was given to her because of her great work in paediatric nursing, which means nursing for children.

What is Casey's Model of Nursing?

Casey's Model of Nursing was created in 1988 by Anne Casey. She developed it while working at the Great Ormond Street Hospital in London. This hospital is a very well-known place for treating children. Anne Casey worked in the unit that cared for children with cancer.

Working Together with Families

The main idea of Casey's Model is about working in partnership with children and their families. This means nurses and families work together as a team. It was one of the first ideas for how nurses could specifically care for children. This model has been used and changed in different parts of England to fit local needs.

Key Ideas of the Model

Casey's Model of Nursing has five main parts or ideas. These are:

  • The child
  • The family
  • Health
  • The environment (where the child is)
  • The nurse

The main belief behind this model is that families are the best people to care for their child. Nurses and other healthcare staff are there to help and support the family. Another nursing idea, called the Nottingham Model, focuses on the family as the main "client." But Casey's Model sees the child as the most important "client" in their care.
