Her Life and Work
Annemarie Bostroem grew up in Leipzig, Germany. Her family were doctors. She went to school in cities like Munich and Königsberg. Later, she studied theatre and German language in Leipzig, Berlin, and Vienna. This was during World War II.
After the war, from 1944 until she passed away in 2015, Annemarie lived in Berlin. For several years, she worked in a job that helped with building projects. But her real passion was writing. She spent a lot of time creating poems and plays.
Annemarie became known as a Nachdichterin. This means she was very good at adapting poems from other languages. She would take poems written in different languages and rewrite them in German. She worked on many poems, translating about 100,000 lines of verse!
Her First Book
Her first book of poems was called Terzinen des Herzens. It came out in 1947. At first, some people in East Germany didn't like it because of its ideas. They even tried to censor parts of it in 1975. However, the book was very popular. About 100,000 copies were sold in East Germany.
Annemarie Bostroem was married to Friedrich Eisenlohr. He was also a writer and journalist. Annemarie Bostroem passed away in Berlin in 2015.
