Annette is a small community found in Kern County, California. It used to be called Palo Prieto. This area is about 6.5 miles (10.5 km) southwest of a place called Orchard Peak. It sits high up, at about 2,198 feet (670 meters) above sea level. Imagine being on a hill that is over 2,000 feet tall!
A Bit of History
Annette had its own post office for many years. It opened in 1889 and closed in 1930. The post office even moved to a new spot in 1894. The community was named after a special person: Annette L. Jenness. She was the very first postmaster there.
