Anni Neumann facts for kids
Anni Neumann (born 13 November 1926) is a retired politician from East Germany. She was a member of the State Council of East Germany from 1967 to 1971. This council was like the collective leader of East Germany.
Her Life and Career
Anni Neumann was born in Stettin, which was then part of Prussia, in 1926. When she was young, she worked on farms.
In the 1950s, she started working in shipbuilding at a company called Neptun Werft in Rostock. She also studied at the University of Rostock and earned a special diploma in 1961. By 1971, she became the director in charge of staff and training at the shipyard. She worked there until she retired in 1981.
Joining Important Groups
Anni Neumann joined several important organizations in East Germany:
- In 1946, she joined the Free German Trade Union Federation (FDGB). This group represented workers' rights.
- In 1947, she joined the Free German Youth (FDJ). This was a youth organization. She even held a leadership role in the FDJ for several years.
- In 1949, she became a member of the Socialist Unity Party of Germany (SED). This was the main political party in East Germany.
Her Political Roles
Anni Neumann became a member of the Volkskammer in 1954. The Volkskammer was the parliament, or main law-making body, of East Germany. Later, in 1976, she joined the parliament's committee that dealt with laws and the constitution.
From 1964 to 1971, she was also a member of the State Council of East Germany. This council acted as the collective head of state for East Germany.
Awards and Recognition
Anni Neumann received several awards for her work. These included the Medal of Merit of the GDR
and the Patriotic Order of Merit in Bronze.
