Annie Rose Laing (born Annie Rose Low, 20 January 1869 – 1946) was a talented Scottish artist. She was well-known for her beautiful paintings. Her art often showed landscapes, children, and indoor scenes.
About Annie Rose Laing
Annie Rose Laing was born in Glasgow, Scotland. She loved art from a young age. She studied at the famous Glasgow School of Art. This was from 1888 to 1894.
In 1894, Annie won a special award. It was called the Haldane Travelling Scholarship. This scholarship allowed her to travel to Paris, France. There, she studied art with a famous teacher, Jean-Paul Laurens.
After her studies, Annie lived in different places. She spent some time in Frascati, Italy. She also lived in London for a while. But she spent most of her life back home in Glasgow.
Her Artistic Journey
In 1908, Annie joined a group called the Glasgow Society of Lady Artists. This group helped women artists share their work. In the same year, she married another artist. His name was James Garden Laing.
Annie showed her paintings mostly in Scotland. She often displayed her art at the Royal Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts. She also showed her work at the Royal Scottish Academy. Sometimes, her art was seen at the Aberdeen Artists Society.
Her art was also shown in other countries. In 1911, she had exhibitions in Munich and Rome. Her paintings were also seen at the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool. At least three of her works were shown at the Royal Academy in London.
Annie Rose Laing passed away in 1946 in Uckfield, Sussex. Today, you can see some of her paintings. They are kept at the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum in Glasgow.
