Annie Webb-Peploe (also known as Annie Webb) was a British author who lived from 1806 to 1880. She wrote about 25 books, sometimes using the name "Mrs. J.B. Webb." Her stories were popular during the 1800s.

Early Life and Family

Annie Molyneux was born on February 4, 1806, in Stanton Lacy, a village in Shropshire, England. In 1828, she married John Birch Webb. He was a vicar, which is a type of Christian priest in the Anglican Church. John worked in a town called Weobly in Herefordshire.

Family Name Change

Later, in 1866, the family decided to change their last name. They added John's mother's maiden name, Peploe, to their own. This is how they became known as Webb-Peploe.

Her Children

Annie and John had seven children together. They had three sons and four daughters.

  • Their son Daniel (1829–1887) joined the army.
  • Augustus (1834–1886) joined the navy.
  • Hammer (born 1835) became a clergyman, like his father. He also wrote books about religious topics.
  • Their daughters were Charlotte Anne (1831–1841), Gertrude Elizabeth (1833–1901), Eleanora Maria (born 1837), and Ella Mary Ann (born 1844).

Her Most Famous Book

Annie Webb-Peploe's most well-known book is probably Naomi: or, The last days of Jerusalem. She wrote this book in 1841. It was very popular and was printed many times throughout the 1800s.

Later Life and Death

Annie Webb-Peploe passed away on January 13, 1880. She died in South Kensington, a part of London.
