Anníe Mist Þórisdóttir (also known as Annie Thorisdottir) is a famous professional CrossFit athlete from Reykjavík, Iceland. She is a co-owner of CrossFit Reykjavik, a gym where she also coaches and trains.

Anníe made history as the first woman to win the CrossFit Games twice. She took home the top prize in 2011 and 2012. She also earned second place in 2010 and 2014 CrossFit Games. Later, she placed third in the 2017 and 2021 CrossFit Games.

Anníe trains for four hours every day, six days a week! Before CrossFit, she was a gymnast for eight years. She also spent two years as a ballet dancer and two years as a pole vaulter. Anníe is about 170 cm (5 ft 7 in) tall and weighs around 67 kg (148 lb). She has two children, a daughter named Freyja (born August 2020) and a son named Atlas (born May 2024).

Anníe's CrossFit Games Journey

Anníe started her CrossFit journey in July 2009. She traveled from Iceland to California to compete in the third annual CrossFit Games. Even though she had only been doing CrossFit for one month, she showed amazing talent.

She finished in the top 10 in five out of eight events. She even won an event called the Sandbag Sprint! However, she faced a big challenge with an exercise called "ring muscle-ups." She had never done them before. Even with help, she struggled during the competition. She only managed one muscle-up, but the crowd cheered her on! She didn't finish that event, but everyone knew she was a strong new competitor.

2010: Becoming a Runner-Up

In 2010, the CrossFit Games moved to a bigger venue in California. Anníe started working with a coach, Jami Tikkanen, to improve her strategy. The competition was very close between Anníe and Kristan Clever.

Anníe had learned to do muscle-ups by then, which helped her a lot. She won several events, like "Sandbag Move" and "Pyramid Double Helen." She finished the Games in second place, right behind Kristan Clever.

2011–2012: Two-Time Champion!

The 2011 CrossFit Games was Anníe's year to shine. She won every part of the CrossFit Games season. This included the worldwide Open competition and the Europe Regional event.

At the Games, Anníe was amazing. She finished in the top 5 in 8 out of 10 events. She won three events and placed third in four others. She beat the 2010 champion, Kristan Clever, by a good margin.

In 2012, Anníe made history again. She and Rich Froning Jr. became the first athletes to win the CrossFit Games twice!

2013–2014: Injury and a Strong Comeback

In 2013, Anníe couldn't defend her title. She had a back injury (a herniated disc) from lifting heavy weights. She had to stop competing and spent the rest of the year recovering. She even wondered if she would be able to walk normally again.

When she returned in 2014, she seemed a bit less confident. But she quickly proved everyone wrong. Anníe won the 2014 Europe Regional competition. At the 2014 Games, she started slowly but finished very strong. She got top 10 finishes and even won two of the last three events. She ended up in second place overall.

2015–2019: Challenges and More Podiums

In 2015, Anníe won the worldwide Open competition for the second time. However, during the Games, she faced a tough challenge. In an event called "Murph," she suffered from heat stroke. She tried to keep going but had to stop before the final events.

Even though Anníe had to withdraw, two other Icelandic women, Katrin Davidsdottir and Sara Sigmundsdottir, finished on the podium!

Anníe continued to compete every year from 2016 to 2019. In 2017, she earned a third-place finish at the Games. This was her fifth time on the podium, showing how consistently strong she is.

2020–2021: Pregnancy and a Return to the Top

In 2020, Anníe competed in the worldwide Open while she was pregnant, though she didn't know it at the time! She announced her pregnancy a few weeks later and took the rest of the 2020 season off.

She returned to competition for the 2021 season and finished third at the Games. Anníe became the first woman to reach the podium at the CrossFit Games within a year of giving birth. This was a huge achievement!

2022: Team Competition

For the 2022 CrossFit Games, Anníe decided to compete as part of a team. She joined Khan Porter, Lauren Fisher, and Tola Morakinyo to form Team CrossFit Reykjavik. Many people thought her team would win a medal. However, due to an injury to Lauren Fisher, the team finished in fourth place.

Other Amazing Achievements

Anníe has won other competitions too. She placed first at the 2013 Dubai Fitness Competition, winning a large prize. She also won the Dubai Fitness Competition again in 2017.

Anníe has also competed in Olympic weightlifting events. In 2015, she participated in the World Weightlifting Championships. She lifted a total of 196 kg (about 432 pounds) in two different lifts!

Personal Life

Anníe has been in a relationship with fellow CrossFit athlete Frederik Ægidius from Denmark since 2012. They have two children together. Their daughter, Freyja Mist Ægidius Frederiksdottir, was born in August 2020. Anníe has openly shared about her recovery from a tough time after giving birth. Their son, Atlas Týr Ægidius Frederiksson, was born in May 2024.
