Anníe Mist Þórisdóttir is a famous CrossFit athlete from Reykjavík, Iceland. Many people know her as Annie Thorisdottir in international sports. She helps run CrossFit Reykjavik, where she also trains and teaches others.

Anníe made history as the first woman to win the CrossFit Games twice. She took home the championship titles in 2011 and 2012. She also earned second place in the 2010 and 2014 CrossFit Games. Anníe placed third in the 2017 and 2021 CrossFit Games.

She trains about four hours a day, six days a week. Before CrossFit, Anníe was a gymnast for eight years. She also studied ballet for two years and was a pole vaulter for two years. Anníe is 170 cm (5 ft 7 in) tall and weighs about 67 kg (148 lb). She has two children, a daughter named Freyja (born August 2020) and a son named Atlas (born May 2024).

Anníe's CrossFit Games Journey

Anníe started her CrossFit journey in July 2009. She traveled from Iceland to California for the third annual CrossFit Games. She had only been doing CrossFit for one month! Even with little experience, Anníe finished in the top 10 in five of eight events. She even won an event called the Sandbag Sprint.

On the last day, there was an event with "ring muscle-ups." Anníe had never done this movement before. She tried to learn it right there, but it was very hard. She managed to do one muscle-up, which was amazing! Even though she didn't finish that event, she showed everyone she was a strong competitor. She ended up in 11th place overall.

2010: Becoming a Runner-Up

In 2010, the CrossFit Games moved to a bigger venue in California. Anníe started working with a coach, Jami Tikkanen, to improve her strategy. The competition was very close between Anníe and Kristan Clever. Anníe had learned to do muscle-ups, which helped her a lot. She won several events, like the "Sandbag Move." Anníe finished the Games in second place, right behind Kristan Clever.

2011–2012: Two-Time Champion

The 2011 CrossFit Games were a huge success for Anníe. She won every part of the CrossFit Games season. This included the worldwide Open, the Europe Regional, and then the Games themselves. She finished in the top 5 in most events. Anníe won three events and placed third in four others. She became the champion, beating Kristan Clever.

In 2012, Anníe made history again. She and Rich Froning Jr. became the first athletes to win the CrossFit Games twice!

2013–2014: Overcoming Injury and a Strong Comeback

In 2013, Anníe couldn't defend her title because of a back injury. She had a herniated disc from lifting heavy weights. She had to stop competing and spent the rest of the year recovering. It was a tough time, and she even wondered if she would walk normally again.

When she returned in 2014, Anníe seemed less confident at first. But she quickly proved everyone wrong. She won the 2014 Europe Regional competition. At the 2014 Games, she started slowly. However, she gained momentum and finished strong. She placed first or second in the last three events. Anníe ended up in second place overall, showing an amazing comeback.

2015–2019: Continued Success

In 2015, Anníe won the worldwide Open for the second time. Later that year, during the CrossFit Games, she faced a big challenge. In an event called "Murph," she suffered from heat stroke. This made her withdraw from the competition early. Despite this, two other Icelandic women, Katrin Davidsdottir and Sara Sigmundsdottir, finished on the podium.

Anníe continued to compete every year from 2016 to 2019. In 2017, she earned third place at the Games. This was her fifth time on the podium, adding to her two second-place finishes and two championships.

2020–2021: Pregnancy and Return to the Podium

In 2020, Anníe competed in the worldwide Open while she was pregnant, though she didn't know it at the time. She announced her pregnancy shortly after. She took a break from competing for the rest of 2020.

Anníe returned to competition for the 2021 season. Amazingly, she finished third at the Games! She became the first woman to get back on the podium at the CrossFit Games within a year of giving birth. Her daughter was born in August 2020, and she was on the podium in August 2021.

2022: Team Competition

For the 2022 CrossFit Games, Anníe decided to compete as part of a team. She joined Khan Porter, Lauren Fisher, and Tola Morakinyo to form Team CrossFit Reykjavik. Many people thought their team would win a medal. However, due to an injury to Lauren Fisher, the team finished in fourth place.

Other Sports Achievements

Anníe has also done well in other competitions. She won the 2013 Dubai Fitness Competition, earning a large prize. She also placed on the podium in 2016 and won first place again in 2017 at the same event.

Anníe has also competed in Olympic weightlifting. In 2015, she participated in the 2015 World Weightlifting Championships. She lifted 88 kg in the Snatch and 108 kg in the Clean & Jerk.

Anníe's Personal Life

Anníe has been in a relationship with fellow CrossFit athlete Frederik Ægidius from Denmark since 2012. They have a daughter, Freyja Mist Ægidius Frederiksdottir, born in August 2020. Anníe has openly shared her experience with and recovery from postpartum depression. In May 2024, Anníe and Frederik welcomed their second child, a son named Atlas Týr Ægidius Frederiksson.
