Anselmo Lorenzo Asperilla (born April 21, 1841, in Toledo, Spain – died November 30, 1914) was a very important person in the early Spanish Anarchist movement. He was often called "the grandfather of Spanish anarchism". This means he helped a lot to spread anarchist ideas in Spain.

Early Life and Ideas
Anselmo Lorenzo became interested in anarchist ideas after meeting Giuseppe Fanelli in 1868. Fanelli was a follower of Mikhail Bakunin, another important anarchist thinker. Fanelli was looking for people to join the International Workingmen's Association. This group was a big international organization for workers. It aimed to unite workers from different countries.
Lorenzo joined this group and became very active. He later wrote about Fanelli and Tomás González Morago. Morago is thought to be the first Spanish anarchist.
Working with Other Leaders
Lorenzo was a printer by trade. He was recruited by Paul Lafargue to join the Spanish Regional Federation of the IWA. Lafargue was the son-in-law of Karl Marx, a famous thinker who developed the idea of Marxism. Marxism is another political idea about how society should be organized, focusing on class struggle and a society without private property.
Lorenzo and other printers helped start a newspaper in Madrid called La Emancipacion. This paper promoted Marxist ideas. Lorenzo even represented the Spanish Marxists at a big meeting in London in 1864.
Later Years and Legacy
From 1901 to 1902, Anselmo Lorenzo worked as an editor for an anarchist newspaper. This newspaper was called La Huelga General. He worked on it with Francisco Ferrer, another important figure.
Anselmo Lorenzo passed away on November 30, 1914. He was buried in the Cemetery of Montjuïc. His work helped shape the early anarchist movement in Spain.
