Anselmo Raguileo Lincopil was an important person from Chile who lived from 1922 to 1992. He was a Mapuche man who studied languages, history, and wrote poems. He even created his own way of writing the Mapuche language, called the Raguileo Alfabet.

Anselmo Raguileo's Early Life

Anselmo Raguileo was born on May 3, 1922. His birthplace was Saltapura, Chile, which is about 16 kilometers southeast of Nueva Imperial.

His Schooling and Education

He went to elementary school at the Boroa Mission School. Later, he also studied at Missionary Padre Las Casas. For high school, he attended the Industrial School of Temuco. There, he learned about metals and became a technician in metallurgy.

Anselmo Raguileo's University Studies

After finishing high school, Anselmo Raguileo moved to Santiago. He went to the School of Arts and Crafts, which is now part of the University of Santiago, Chile. He studied chemistry there and became a chemist in 1944.

Studying Languages and Mapuche Culture

From 1952 to 1956, Anselmo Raguileo focused on studying languages. He became a language teacher. He also taught about the Mapuche culture at the Pedagogical Institute of the University of Chile. This showed his deep interest in his own people's heritage.
