HE Anthony Thomas Aquinas Carmona SC ORTT was the fifth President of Trinidad and Tobago. He was born on 7 March 1953. He served as President from 2013 to 2018. Before becoming President, he was a High Court Judge. He also worked as a judge for the International Criminal Court.

Early Life and Education
Anthony Carmona was born in Fyzabad, South Trinidad. He was born on March 7, 1953. He is the oldest of six children. His parents are Dennis Stephen and Barbara Carmona. His family has roots from African, Mestizo, and Cocoa Panyol people.
He went to Santa Flora Government Primary School. Later, he attended Presentation College in San Fernando. He studied at the University of the West Indies. He also went to the Hugh Wooding Law School. He studied there between 1973 and 1983.
He is married to Reema Harrysingh. They got married in 1997. They have two children, Christian and Anura.
Career Journey
After finishing law school in 1983, Mr. Carmona started working. He was a State Counsel, which means he worked as a lawyer for the government. In 1989, he became a Senior State Attorney.
From 1994 to 1999, he worked as a Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions. This role involves leading legal cases for the government. He also worked as an Appeals Counsel. This was for international courts in The Hague and Arusha. These courts dealt with serious international crimes.
In 2019, he received the World Peace Culture Award. This award recognizes people who work for peace.
High Court Judge
In 2004, Anthony Carmona became a High Court Judge. He worked at the Supreme Court of Trinidad and Tobago. Judges make important decisions in legal cases.
President of Trinidad and Tobago

Becoming President
On February 3, 2013, the Prime Minister announced a plan. She said her party would choose Mr. Carmona for President. The leader of the opposition party also agreed. They both supported his nomination.
However, some people wondered if he could be President. This was because he had worked outside the country. To be President, a person must usually live in the country for ten years. The government checked with legal experts. They confirmed that Mr. Carmona met this requirement. He was elected and served as President until 2018.
