Reema Harrysingh-Carmona was born on November 22, 1970. She is an economist from Trinidad and Tobago. She served as the First Lady of Trinidad and Tobago from 2013 to 2018. She is married to Anthony Carmona, who was the fifth President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.

Her Early Years

Reema Harrysingh-Carmona was born in Hoboken, New Jersey, in the United States. Her father, Cobee Harrysingh, was an engineering contractor. Her mother is Savitri Seeteram-Harrysingh.

Reema's parents were from Trinidad and Tobago. She attended St. Brigid's Girls' Roman Catholic and Iere High School in Siparia, Trinidad. After finishing her studies there, she moved to Canada.

In Canada, she went to Cairine Wilson High School in Ottawa. Later, she studied at the University of Ottawa. She earned a degree in Economics from this university.

Reema and President Carmona have two children. Their son, Christian, was born in 1999. Their daughter, Anura, was born in 2002. Reema is a Hindu, while her husband, Anthony Carmona, is a Roman Catholic.

Her Career

After living in Canada for 11 years, Reema Harrysingh-Carmona returned to Trinidad and Tobago. She worked at two important organizations there. These were the Point Lisas Industrial Port Development Corporation (PLIPDECO) and the Small Business Development Corporation.

As First Lady

Reema Harrysingh-Carmona married Anthony Carmona in 1997. He was 17 years older than her. They got married in a Catholic church in south Trinidad.

Anthony Carmona served as the fifth President of Trinidad and Tobago from 2013 to 2018. During this time, Reema Harrysingh-Carmona was the First Lady.

As First Lady, she supported many important causes. She helped with the Diabetes Association. She also worked to prevent childhood obesity. Another cause she supported was raising awareness for autism.
