Anthony Cornelius Hamilton (born January 28, 1971) is an American singer and songwriter. He was born in Charlotte, North Carolina. Anthony Hamilton is known for his soulful voice and R&B music.
He first gained attention for his singing on the song "Po' Folks" by Nappy Roots in 2002. This song became quite popular. His second album, Comin' from Where I'm From (2003), was a big success. It sold over a million copies and earned him four Grammy Award nominations. The album included his famous song "Charlene".
Anthony Hamilton has won one Grammy Award out of 12 nominations. He also co-wrote and performed the song "Freedom" with Elayna Boynton for the movie Django Unchained in 2012.

Anthony Hamilton's Music Journey
Anthony Hamilton started singing in his church choir when he was 17. He went to South Mecklenburg High School and was part of their award-winning choir. In 1992, he moved to New York City to pursue his music career. He signed with Uptown Records.
He helped write the hit song "U Know What's Up" for singer Donell Jones in 1999. In 2000, he toured as a backup singer for the famous soul artist D'Angelo.
Working with Nappy Roots
Anthony Hamilton first became widely known for singing the chorus on Nappy Roots' 2002 song "Po' Folks". This song was nominated for a Grammy Award for "Best Rap/Sung Collaboration". He also worked with Nappy Roots on other songs like "Sick & Tired" and "Push On".

In 2003, Anthony Hamilton released his first official album, Comin' From Where I'm From. This album featured his popular song "Charlene". He also sang on Jadakiss's 2004 hit song "Why", which was also nominated for a Grammy.
His album Ain't Nobody Worryin' came out in 2005. It sold well and was certified gold, meaning it sold over 500,000 copies. He also sang with other artists like Buddy Guy and Angie Stone.
In 2006, Anthony Hamilton won the "Cool Like That" Award at the BET Awards. He performed on Dave Chappelle's TV show Chappelle's Show. He even appeared in the movie American Gangster as a soul singer.
In 2011, he was featured on Jill Scott's song "So In Love," which was number one on the R&B charts for many weeks. He also sang on songs for popular artists like Big K.R.I.T. and Nas.
In 2015, Anthony Hamilton made a guest appearance on the TV show Empire. He performed his song "Point of It All" on the show.
In 2016, he performed at the White House for President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama. He released his sixth album, What I'm Feelin', that same year. This album featured famous guitarists Gary Clark, Jr. and Vince Gill. He also worked with his background singers, The HamilTones.
More recently, in 2017, he sang on the song "Carnival" for the virtual band Gorillaz. In 2020, he released the song "Back Together" with Rick James. This song was the first single from his seventh album, Love Is the New Black, which came out in 2021.

Anthony Hamilton has six sons. He was married to his background singer, Tarsha McMillan, from 2005 to 2015. They had twin boys in 2010 and another son in 2012.
