His Time in Parliament
Anthony Rous was a Member of Parliament (MP). An MP is someone chosen to represent a specific area in the government. They help make laws and decisions for the country.
Representing Cornwall
In 1653, Anthony Rous was chosen to be an MP for Cornwall. This was during a time known as the Barebones Parliament. He was re-elected to represent Cornwall in two more Parliaments: the First Protectorate Parliament and the Second Protectorate Parliament. This shows he was a trusted leader in his area.
Serving Helston
In April 1660, Rous was elected as an MP for Helston. This election was for the Convention Parliament. However, there was a problem with the election results. He was allowed to take his seat in May 1660, but the election was later cancelled on June 27. This meant a new election had to be held for that seat.
