Early Life and Education
Sir Anthony Thorold was the oldest son of William Thorold and Dorothy Leke. He began his journey into law in 1537. That year, he started studying at Gray's Inn, which was (and still is) a famous place in London where people learn to become lawyers.
A Career in Law and Politics
Sir Anthony quickly became successful in his career.
Becoming a Judge
Soon after 1550, Sir Anthony became a 'Recorder' for the town of Grantham. A Recorder was a type of judge who helped with legal matters in the local area. He likely held this important job until he died.
Serving in Parliament
In 1558, Sir Anthony became a Member of Parliament (MP) for Grantham. An MP is someone elected to represent people in the country's government, called Parliament. He got this position with the help of a powerful person named Henry Manners, 2nd Earl of Rutland.
The very next year, in 1559, he again received support from Henry Manners. This time, he became the Recorder for the city of Lincoln. He also became an MP for Lincoln. He stopped being the Recorder of Lincoln in 1570.

Sir Anthony held several other significant roles in Lincolnshire:
- He was the High Sheriff of Lincolnshire from 1571 to 1572. A High Sheriff was a very important official who managed law and order in the county.
