Antioch is a small place in Bibb County, Alabama, in the United States. It's known as an "unincorporated community." This means it's a group of homes and buildings that doesn't have its own local government, like a city or town does. Antioch is located west of Randolph, along Bibb County Road 20.
The community is home to several churches. One of the most important is Antioch Baptist Church, which was formed in 1833. This church actually gave the community its name!
A Look at Antioch's Past
Even though Antioch officially started in 1833, it was important much earlier. From 1818 until 1830, Antioch was the "county seat" for Bibb County. A county seat is like the main office building for a county. It's where the county government does its work.
The Old Woolley School
If you visit County Road 20 in Antioch, you can still see parts of the old Woolley School. This building used to be a one-room schoolhouse. Imagine all the kids learning together in just one room! A teacher named J.C. Hicks was once the schoolmaster there. Today, the Woolley School is an empty building. It hasn't been used for at least 30 years.
