Antoine Labotte Carr, born on July 23, 1961, is a former American basketball player. People called him "Big Dawg." He played for 16 seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA). He mostly played as a power forward, but sometimes as a center. He played for six different teams during his career.

Early Life and College

Antoine Carr was born in Oklahoma City. He became a basketball star at Wichita Heights High School in Kansas. After high school, he received a scholarship to play at Wichita State University.

He played for four years at Wichita State. He was a key player on a team that included future NBA stars Xavier McDaniel and Cliff Levingston. During his college career, he scored about 17 points per game. He also shot over 55% from the field. In his last college game on March 5, 1983, he scored a school-record 47 points.

Antoine also played for the U.S. national team. In 1982, he helped the team win a silver medal at the 1982 FIBA World Championship.

Professional Basketball Career

After a great college career, Antoine Carr was chosen by the Detroit Pistons in the 1983 NBA draft. He was the eighth player picked overall. However, he did not sign a contract with the Pistons. Instead, he played one season in Italy for Simac Milano.

Playing in the NBA

Carr returned to the NBA for the 1984–85 season. He played six full seasons with the Atlanta Hawks. The Hawks had gotten his rights from the Pistons. In the middle of the 1989–90 season, he moved to the Sacramento Kings.

While playing for the Kings, Carr became one of the team's stars. He scored 20 points per game that season. He scored 1,551 points, which was his best scoring year.

He then played for the San Antonio Spurs. He was known for making a high percentage of his shots. In 1992, he played very well in a playoff series against the Phoenix Suns. He filled in for an injured David Robinson. Even with Carr's great play, the Spurs lost the series.

On October 29, 1994, Carr joined the Utah Jazz. He sometimes started as a center next to Karl Malone. When he didn't start, he was an important "sixth man." A sixth man is a player who comes off the bench but plays a lot of minutes. Coach Jerry Sloan used Carr a lot when the Jazz reached the NBA Finals twice. Carr helped the Jazz win Game 5 of the 1998 Finals against the Chicago Bulls. He made several important shots in that game.

Carr finished his NBA career playing for the Houston Rockets and Vancouver Grizzlies. He played a reserve role for both teams.

Career Highlights

Antoine Carr scored 9,176 points in his NBA career. He was known for his strength and his ability to dunk the ball. He could also make medium and long-range jump shots when it mattered most. He made 50% of his shots from the field. He also made 78% of his free throws.

After an eye injury, Carr wore orange-tinted protective glasses. He wore them for the rest of his NBA career.

After the NBA

After his time in the NBA, Carr played one season for the Kansas City Knights. This team was part of the American Basketball Association (ABA). He then played one season for a Greek team called Ionikos NF.

Antoine's younger brother, Henry Carr, also played basketball. Henry played for Wichita State and was drafted by the Los Angeles Clippers in 1987.
