Antoinette Nwandu grew up in Los Angeles. She went to several universities, including Harvard University and the University of Edinburgh. She also studied at the Tisch School of the Arts, which is famous for performing arts.

Pass Over first opened in Chicago in May 2017 at the Steppenwolf Theatre Company. Later, the play was filmed live at the theater. Famous director Spike Lee helped adapt it into a movie. This movie premiered on Amazon Prime Video in April 2018. The play then came to New York City in June 2018.
