Lehmden's Artistic Style

Anton Lehmden's early paintings showed his love for Chinese landscape art. He focused on peaceful and poetic scenes of nature.

Themes in His Art

Over the years, Lehmden's art changed. He began to focus on different themes. These often included war events and natural disasters. His paintings became more powerful and expressive. He also explored mythical stories and cosmic dreams. Sometimes, his art showed visions of the end of the world.

Lehmden used his own difficult experiences from the war in his art. For example, he created paintings about "Panzerschlacht" (tank battles). In these works, he also included parts of old buildings. He studied these ancient structures during his many travels. Famous examples include the Colosseum in Rome and the Egyptian Pyramids.

Exhibitions and Public Works

Lehmden's art has been shown in many countries. These include Italy, Austria, Japan, and the United States. His work was also displayed in Germany, Turkey, and Poland.

In 1991, Lehmden designed the Volkstheater subway station in Vienna. He created a huge glass mosaic for it. In 1999, he became an honorary citizen of Deutschkreutz town. He also helped redesign the parish church there with his artistic touch.

In 1984, Anton Lehmden received the Lovis-Corinth Prize for his art.

Schloss Deutschkreutz

In 1966, Anton Lehmden bought a Renaissance castle. It was called Schloss Deutschkreutz and was located in Burgenland. He spent many years carefully restoring this old castle.

Since 2003, the "Lehmden Sommerakademie" has been held at the castle. This is Lehmden's summer painting school. Young artists can go there to learn and create. Since 2016, the castle has been open for visitors in the summer. People can take guided tours to explore it.
