Antonio Brufau Niubó, born on March 12, 1948, is a very important leader in the business world. He is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Chairman of Repsol. Repsol is a big company that works with oil and natural gas all around the world. Mr. Brufau has been in charge of Repsol since 2004.

Mr. Brufau's Career Journey
Early Career and Banking
After finishing his education, Antonio Brufau started working at a company called Arthur Andersen. There, he became a partner and a director in charge of checking financial records. This job is called auditing.
In 1988, he joined La Caixa, which is a large Spanish bank. He became a deputy general manager. In this role, he helped combine two important savings funds: the Pension Fund of Catalonia and the Balearic Islands, and Box de Ahorros y Monte de Piedad Barcelona.
In 1994, while working for La Caixa, he became the president of Port Aventura. This is a popular theme park in Spain.
Leading in the Energy Sector
In July 1997, Mr. Brufau was chosen to be the president of the natural gas part of Repsol. He held this important position until 2004. During this time, from 1996 to 2004, he was also a member of Repsol's Board of Directors. The Board of Directors helps guide the company's decisions.
From July 2002 to July 2005, he was also the president of Circulo de Economía de Barcelona. This is a group that discusses economic ideas in Barcelona.
In 2004, Antonio Brufau was appointed as the CEO of Repsol. Since he took on this leadership role, Repsol has changed how it is organized. The company has also focused on growing its business in finding and producing oil and gas, and in processing and selling it. They also focused on liquefied natural gas.
Besides his work at Repsol, Mr. Brufau is also the vice chairman of Gas Natural Fenosa. This is another big energy company.
Awards and Recognition
In 2010, Antonio Brufau received a special award. He was named "Entrepreneur of the Year" by a group called the Federation of Spanish Chambers of Commerce in Europe (FEDECOM). He earned this award because Repsol was doing more and more business outside of Spain under his leadership.
Education and Personal Life
Antonio Brufau studied Economics at the University of Barcelona. He also earned a Master of Arts (MA) degree in Economics from IESE Business School - Universidad de Navarra.
Until December 2005, he was the only Spanish member on the Executive Committee of the International Chamber of Commerce. This organization works to promote international trade and business.
