Naturgy Energy Group S.A. is a big Spanish company that provides natural gas and electricity. It used to be called Gas Natural Fenosa. This company works mainly in Spain. Its main office is in Barcelona, and its legal office is in Madrid.
Naturgy also operates in many other countries. These include Italy, France, Germany, The Netherlands, Belgium, Mexico, Colombia, Argentina, Brazil, Moldova, and Morocco. It also serves the U.S. territory of Puerto Rico.
What Naturgy Does
Naturgy's main activities involve distributing natural gas in Spain, Italy, and Latin America. They also generate and sell electricity in Spain. The company manages the systems that transport natural gas.
Naturgy serves about 10 million energy customers around the world. It has around 6,700 employees. About half of these employees work in Spain.
Some of the biggest owners of Naturgy shares are the Spanish bank La Caixa and the global energy company Repsol.
In 2009, Gas Natural bought another utility company called Unión Fenosa. This purchase cost about €16.8 billion. In June 2018, the company's shareholders decided to change its name to Naturgy Energy Group.
Naturgy's Main Offices
Naturgy's main administrative office building is called Gas Natural Building. It is also known as Mare Nostrum Tower. This building is located in the La Barceloneta area of Barcelona.
The skyscraper was designed by the EMBT Architects firm. Architects Enric Miralles and Benedetta Tagliabue created its unique look. The building was finished in 2005.
In 2017, Naturgy moved its legal headquarters to Madrid. This move happened because of the political situation in Catalonia at the time. Naturgy's Madrid office is in the Hortaleza district. This office is a group of 14 buildings that Naturgy bought in 2016.
