Naturgy Energy Group S.A. is a big Spanish company that provides natural gas and electricity. It used to be called Gas Natural Fenosa.
Naturgy mainly works in Spain, but it also has operations in many other countries. These include Italy, France, Germany, The Netherlands, Belgium, Mexico, Colombia, Argentina, Brazil, Moldova, Morocco, and even Puerto Rico.
What Naturgy Does
Naturgy's main activities are:
- Distributing natural gas in Spain, Italy, and countries in Latin America.
- Generating and selling electricity in Spain.
- Managing the systems that transport natural gas.
The company serves about 10 million customers around the world. About half of its employees, which are around 6,700 people, work in Spain.
Some of the biggest owners of Naturgy include the Spanish bank La Caixa and the global energy company Repsol.
In 2009, Gas Natural bought another energy company called Unión Fenosa. This was a very big deal, costing around €16.8 billion.
In June 2018, the company's owners decided to change its name from Gas Natural Fenosa to Naturgy Energy Group.
Company Headquarters
Naturgy's main administrative office is in the Gas Natural Building, also known as Mare Nostrum Tower. This tall building is in the La Barceloneta area of Barcelona. It was designed by architects Enric Miralles and Benedetta Tagliabue and finished in 2005. It has a modern, high-tech look.
In 2017, Naturgy moved its legal headquarters to Madrid. This happened because of a situation in Catalonia. The Madrid office is a group of 14 buildings in the Hortaleza district, which Naturgy bought in 2016.
