His Football Journey
Antonio Permunian started playing football as a young boy with his local team, AC Bellinzona. He joined their main team in 1948. That same year, his team, Bellinzona, won the Swiss Football League Championship.
In 1960, he moved to play for FC Luzern. He stayed there for six years, showing off his skills as a goalkeeper. Later, he returned to AC Bellinzona to finish his amazing football career.
The Match of His Life
Antonio Permunian often talked about a special game he played. It was on September 17, 1955, when Switzerland played against Hungary. The game was held in the Stade Olympique de la Pontaise stadium, and about 45,000 fans watched.
Even though Switzerland lost the game 4-5, Permunian remembered it clearly. He faced famous players like Ferenc Puskás, Sándor Kocsis, and Nándor Hidegkuti. They kept shooting at his goal!
At that time, goalkeepers usually played without gloves. But after this intense match, Antonio Permunian bought his first pair of goalie gloves. He became the very first goalkeeper in Switzerland to play with gloves, changing the game forever! He lived in Bellinzona for most of his life.
