Life of Antonio de Capmany
Antonio de Capmany was born in Barcelona, Spain. He went to a school run by the Jesuits in Barcelona. There, he studied subjects like logic and humanities, which are about human culture and thought.
Later, he joined the army. In 1762, he was part of the Spanish army that went to Portugal. After serving in the army, he decided to retire in 1770.
After leaving the army, Capmany became the secretary of the Royal Academy of History in Madrid. This is a very important group that studies and preserves Spanish history.
He was also chosen to be a representative for Catalonia in the Cortes of Cádiz. This was a special meeting where leaders from different parts of Spain came together. They worked to create a new constitution for Spain during a difficult time. Capmany was one of 51 representatives from Catalonia at this important meeting.
Antonio de Capmany passed away in Barcelona on November 14, 1813. He wrote a book about the history of his hometown, Barcelona, which is still considered very valuable today.
