His Music Journey
Early Life and Talent Shows
Antwaun Stanley grew up in Flint, Michigan. He started singing when he was just three years old. As a kid, he entered many talent competitions. He even appeared on famous TV shows like The Queen Latifah Show and Showtime at the Apollo. He finished high school at Flint Central High School in 2005.
First Album and College Days
After high school, Antwaun signed with Bajada Records. This is an independent record label, meaning it's not owned by a big music company. He also studied at the University of Michigan. While in college, he released his first album called I Can Do Anything. This album did very well! It reached number 22 on the U.S. Gospel Albums chart. One song from the album, "Teach Me," reached number 29 on the U.S. Gospel Songs chart. In 2008, he was even nominated for a Stellar Awards as "New Artist of the Year."
Working with Other Musicians
During his college years, Antwaun performed with a funk band called Groove Spoon. He also sang with an a cappella group named Dicks and Janes. Antwaun often works with the popular funk group Vulfpeck. Many members of Vulfpeck also went to the University of Michigan. He also performs with Ann Street Soul and a group called Video 7. In 2015, he opened a show for the famous hip-hop artist Common. In 2021, Antwaun announced a new project. It was a shorter album, called an EP, with musician Tyler Duncan. This EP was named Ascension.
