How Apalona Got Its Name
Apalona has an interesting history, especially when it comes to its name. The community's first post office opened in 1858. At that time, it was known as Lashers.

Six years later, in 1864, the post office was officially renamed Apalona. This name stuck for many years. The Apalona post office served the community for nearly a century before it finally closed its doors in 1955.
