Apaseo el Alto shares its borders with several other places. To the north, it's next to Apaseo el Grande. To the east, it borders the state of Querétaro. A Look Back in Time: History
Long, long ago, even before Europeans arrived in Mexico, the area of Apaseo was called Apatzeo. The Otomí people lived here. They called it Atlayahualco, which means "place where water flows." This name tells us that water was very important to the people living there.
